HLFT helps secure $95 million settlement of PCB contamination claims for the State of Washington
The firm is pleased to announce that our client, the State of Washington, has reached a $95 million settlement with Monsanto in State of Washington v. Monsanto (King County Sup. Ct.), over Monsanto’s manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of toxic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The State overcame Monsanto’s efforts to dismiss the action and developed strong evidence that Monsanto produced PCBs for decades while hiding what it knew about the harm PCBs posed to human health and the environment. The $95 million recovery is believed to be the State’s largest independent state environmental recovery against a single defendant.
HLFT attorneys Tim Leyh, Shane Cramer, Ariel Martinez, Sara Cloon, and John Burzynski, along with co-counsel from Baron & Budd and attorneys from the Washington State Attorney General’s Office, represented the State in the lawsuit.
